Grovelands 100 - The Centenary of Grovelands Park 2013
Boats on the Lake organised by the 10th Enfield Sea Scouts and N21.net
We will be writing a considered piece about the boats once the dust has settled.
In the meantime, however, Andrew Gill (representing the 10th Enfield Sea Scouts) and Hugh Humphrey (representing N21.net) would just like to thank everyone that supported us over the last year to get the boats on the lake for the centenary weekend.
It wasn't easy to do, but we felt that it would be a really memorable and fun experience for everyone.
From the feedback over the weekend we understand we were not alone, and we would like to thank everyone for their kind comments and encouragement.
We just loved to see everyone having fun on Grovelands Park lake once again.
Here is a short film showing Ann Humphrey rowing on the lake...
Before the event information...
After very careful consideration of all factors affecting the park and its wildlife, the friends of Grovelands Park have permission and approval from Enfield Borough Council and the RSPB to bring boats back onto Grovelands lake for two days only ! We think this will be a really enjoyable, safe and fun event !
There will be 11 boats, as shown in the picture, which we are hiring from Oxford.
Sessions will be 30 minutes and each boat can hold up to 4 people.
How much does it cost and do I have to queue for hours ?
The half hour session costs £20.00 per boat on the day.
To avoid queuing on the day, you can book your slot in advance.
To book a boat in advance, for £17.50 per boat click here.
All you then need to do is to turn up 10 minutes before your slot. Please note advance booking closes at 10pm on Friday 17th May 2013.
If you are not comfortable with attempting the rowing yourself but would still like to go onto Grovelands Park Lake, then we will be offering assisted boats, where for an additional £5.00 someone will row the boat for you.
Terms and conditions
There will be a £20.00 per boat cash deposit that you will need to pay on the day to ensure that everyone adheres to the rules/times !
This will be returned to you if you return the boat on time without infringing any of the rules.
Before you book a boat, please read our terms and conditions here. We will ask you to sign a copy of this before you go out in your boat.
Be the first on the Lake
If you like the idea of being the first group on the lake in decades, with no plans for this ever to happen again, you can book one of the first set of boats for £40.00 per boat. This VIP trip is on Saturday 18th May only at 10:00 am. Add a note to the booking form and send appropriate monies.
How to book
We will be in the Park each weekend between now and the event to take bookings, at times we will post here. Come on down and meet us, and find out more about the event. Unfortunately we can only take cheques or cash.
Where to come
The launch area for the boats will be on the south side of the lake just along from the Park Café ( If you know the Park, where it used to be) . If you have pre-booked, remember to arrive 10 minutes before your allotted time so that you can agree to and sign the terms and conditions, pay your £20 deposit and don your life jackets.
We hope you have a really fun time on the water. Enjoy !
The boating launch position is marked on this map..
