In 1979 Iris Payne, a musician living in Winchmore Hill, was running two ladies choirs - the Bush Hill TWG choir and the Philomel Choir, Southgate.

In 1993 the London Borough of Enfield stopped funding the TWG choir and it was unable to continue.

By popular request , Iris amalgamated the two choirs.

The new choir was, after much deliberation, named " The Winchmore Singers " because it rehearsed in Holy Trinity Church, Winchmore Hill Broadway, London N21.
